A Paw Patrol Extravaganza
Birthday parties, what can I say. Tiring, but oh so rewarding. And magical when you see the absolute joy on your little one’s face.
We had been chatting about a party for some time. I wanted to be sure that Elijah had made the right choice in deciding what the theme of this years party should be, as after all, when you are three years old this is a decision that should be yours. There was no doubt in Elijah’s mind that he wanted a Paw Patrol theme. He has been going through quite a long (drawn out) stage where he thinks he is Marshall from Paw Patrol and I often have a little boy running around on all fours barking in my house. But that is a story for another day. I started preparations early for his party. I bought all the decorations four months before the day from Wish.com but being Wish.com everything arrived a week later. But I made do with what I could. Arranging a party can be stressful but Bronwyn, Lisa(Onemodernmom blog) and my mother-in-law (Elijah’s Bibi) saw to it that it was not with all the help they gave.
To keep costs down nothing was outsourced, the only splurge I did was have the wonderful Annene from Annene Photo come and take some pictures. I am so glad that I decided to as I now have beautiful photos to remind me of the day. Bibi made Elijah’s awesome Paw Patrol ice cream cake and I tackled the rest of the baking. I made peaches and cream muffins, a naked lemon and buttermilk cake with cream cheese icing, ginger bread dog biscuits, cup cakes and more.
I decided that I wanted kids to be kids and just play with each other, and I am amazed at how much fun they had! The only game I had planned was a monstrous pass the parcel with a prize for each child which Lisa so sweetly wrapped for us, all 30 presents worth! We were having so much fun that I completely forgot about the game and found a huge parcel in my study when most of the guests had left already. Not before taking their “doggie bags” with their “dog” biscuits home with them however. (Gingerbread biscuits made by me and iced by Bronwyn).
Thank you all who made the day so special for Elijah and I. As much as I missed Darrell and shed a few tears before everyone arrived, I felt his love shinning down on us. It was a good day.
And just like that I have a three year old.
